"Both writing and drawing are equally important parts of my practice, so I would say the relationship between the two is the language on it own; it’s a portrayal of my thinking process." – Douglas Cantor
Douglas Cantor approaches painting as a living, intuitive process. Working on multiple canvases at once, he lets each piece evolve slowly, guided by instinct rather than fixed ideas. Text and image interact fluidly, often emerging from everyday thoughts, conversations, or memories. Layering marks, textures, and words, Cantor builds his works like visual journals, open to change, repetition, and erasure. Mistakes are part of the process, not something to avoid. Living closely with his paintings, he allows them to shift over time, creating space for reflection and surprise. His practice is less about resolution and more about staying present with the work as it unfolds.
